I “discovered” Judaism at 19 years old, which is now half a lifetime ago. I began this blog 12 years ago, but it has been quiet for almost 4 years. I’m nearing my 10th wedding anniversary, have 2 children, and still live in the New York City area.

Have you had any experiences or know of anyone who visited a mekubal to receive their hebrew name? I'm in the process of a giur lechumra BZ"H and my real name is literally an allusion to xtianity's founder "paul" yikes. So I'm curious if you've heard of anyone receiving their name through this (a mekubal).

I'm sure some have, especially in more chassidic communities, but I don't know of any stories about it. It would be more socially accepted in some communities than others, which would determine how open I would be about it. But then again, how often will it come up? Hatzlacha!
