Shachar שַׁחַר means “dawn” and is the root of a Jewish word you might know – shacharit שַחֲרִית (morning prayers). Shachar is a modern Hebrew/Israeli name, primarily used in Israel. It’s pretty unusual in the Jewish diaspora. It is gender-neutral and is used equally between boys and girls. You might also see it spelled Shahar.
