Why do you need a Shabbos toothbrush? Everyone in my family has just one toothbrush and we keep Shabbat. Confused!! Tzippi

Are the bristles of the Shabbos toothbrush black so that if your gums do bleed a little, it won't show? Sort of like the rationale behind black pantiliners? http://www.yoatzot.org/article.php?id=107 Or is that just an added perk? Maybe they just black so that you won't mistake it for your weekday toothbrush?
I made a comment a while back about prohibiting brushing your teeth on Shabbat being a chumrah and got ripped apart by a lot of people who say it's a basic halacha. Because of that, a friend gave me this "kosher" toothbrush and their "Shabbos toothwash" as a gag gift. I'm still figuring out how it works. Surprisingly difficult.
Anonymous: The bristles are navy blue, not black. I think blood would show up on them. But you couldn't mistake it for a normal toothbrush, THAT is for certain.

Tzippi: Kosher Innovations, the makers of the toothbrush above (the same people who make the Kosher Lamp), discuss the halacha on their website: http://www.kosherimage.com/approval.html#prohibitions
